Ha! I thought I was done posting for the weekend, but this morning’s Wikipedia visit brought with it an unexpected reason to celebrate. Today is Neko Case’s birthday. I saw Neko (link to photos and setlist, not mine) in July at the Byham Theater in Pittsburgh (and speaking of Pittsburgh — GO BROWNS! — didn’t think I forgot, did ya?) She was even more awesome than expected. Yeah. And smokin‘ hot, too. Here’s some Youtube of Neko singing “Favorite,” which was, ironically (or un-ironically) my favorite song of the evening:

“Basically in the New Pornographers, I come in and do my job, and they tell me what to do and I go right on,” says Case. “I make up a lot of my own parts, but basically I trust them completely. The New Pornographers to me are like being a teenager and sitting on your bed and playing air guitar in the mirror and saying, ‘God, I wish I was in a fantasy kick ass rock band.’ And then poof, your fairy godmother hits you with a wand and suddenly you’re in your fantasy kick ass rock band. I just feel super giddy to be in the fantasy kick ass rock band, and it takes a lot of pressure off because I’m not the focal point of the band.”
