Though I’ve been living in the ‘Burgh five-days-a-week, I haven’t stopped reading the PD at Cleveland.com, and weirdly enough, I find the Metro/Crime section more interesting than ever. Usually it’s just sad, like when 14-year-olds start shooting up schools and kill themselves or when 12-year-old girls are gunned down in the street for no reason at all, but sometimes it’s just fun. Like this story …
In front of the entire world, let me say this one time — Please, please, please, if I make it to my late seventies, let me be the one cavorting with hookers and doing drugs.
West Side man, 77, avoids long sentence in drug case – cleveland.com
Morgan had racked up more than a dozen prior convictions in a 15-year history of mainly drug-related crimes. For most Ohioans, crimes like Morgan’s don’t carry a life term. But for Morgan, who is the father of a 4-year-old boy, they had that potential. That’s because Morgan will turn 78 years old on Nov. 11.
He has earned the enmity of West Side neighbors who have complained constantly that Morgan cavorts openly with prostitutes and has let his extensive portfolio of rental properties degenerate into crack houses and slums.
Yet another crack-peddling and possession bust – with a woman in a Parma motel room on July 15 – violated Morgan’s probation for four convictions on similar charges in 2005 and 2006.
“He is a true menace to the neighborhood,” Michael McDonald, a safety activist in the Cuddell neighborhood on Cleveland’s Near West Side, complained recently. McDonald calls Morgan “the septuagenarian junkie.”
